the Project Management Institute (PMI-MN)

Already restructured, downsized, right-sized IT Professionals, as well as those concerned about their future, can learn how to improve their networking skills by attending the Networking for IT Professionals seminar. Hosted by the Minnesota Information Professional Society (MnIPS) and the Minnesota Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI-MN), this event will showcase IT staffing professionals and networking experts that will share their tips and techniques to find a job or stay current with events and technology

  • Presentation by Barbara T. Adams, Right Management Consultants

    Barbara is a Human Resource Development (HRD) professional with over 20 years of combined experience in training and development, organizational development (OD), and career development. Her primary focus is coaching individuals through career transition both individually and as a facilitator.

    Barbara has also combined her professional experience with her volunteer work in the cooperative world within the natural–food industry where she held an executive position on the Board of Directors for four years. Barbara has been a Lifestyle Education Coach working with individuals dealing with chronic illnesses or degenerative diseases and coaching them through a holistic lifestyle. Currently, Barbara has been on public television as an on-air host interviewing a variety of authors in the ecumenical world of religion and nutrition.

    How to sell your value to an employer whether you are job hunting or presently employed. This is the second of two joint networking sessions sponsored by PMI-MN Career Networking Group and MnIPS.

    Pat O'Donnell is a veteran with nine years in the career counseling and recruiting industries. As a recruiter, she specializes in placing and coaching project managers, business analysts, writers, computer and other professionals. Pat has an extensive selection of job search strategies. A frequent presenter at professional associations and universities, she speaks on job search strategies, selling your assets to employers and changing career direction.

"Sleepless in Rochester: Combating Economic Espionage"

This presentation will examine an actual economic espionage incident involving the theft of research data from Mayo Clinic Rochester. Frank Krahn will highlight who, what, when, where and how the incident was resolved plus demonstrate the need for corporate and law enforcement cooperation in the successful resolution of the incident.

Krahn.jpg (6725 bytes) Frank Krahn has 26 years of experience in physical and information security with the Mayo Foundation/Clinic. He holds numerous certifications, including Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Computer Crime Investigator (Advanced Level), and Certified Computer Forensic Technician (Advanced Level). He is a member of the High Tech Criminal Investigators Association and the High Tech Crime Network. He has served on the editorial review board for the Journal of Computer Crime Investigations and Forensics and has taught classes for or consulted with various law enforcement agencies including the MN State Patrol, the MN Crime Prevention Annual Meeting,and local law enforcement.

Ensuring Election Integrity in Minnesota
(or How to Not be another "Florida")

The debacle of the 2000 presidential election brought passage of the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) of 2002 to improve election administration and set minimum standards. Every part of the voting process is affected, from poll worker training to voting machines and voter registration. Ady Wickstrom will discuss the technology changes required by the law and related challenges in implementing it. Direct Recording Electronic machines that manage both voting and tabulation have been a controversial part of this technology revolution. Ady will talk about some of the issues they raise. For example: should a verifiable paper trail be required?

Ady Wickstrom has served as League of Women Voters webmaster since 1997, first as a volunteer, then as a League employee since January 2004. Prior to this position, she had 15 years experience as a Systems Programmer at Deluxe Corporation and 4 years at Fair Isaac as a Senior Programmer Analyst. Ady has given presentations on electronic voting and HAVA to a variety of groups. Ady has been a councilmember of Shoreview City Council since 1997

League of Women Voters is a non-partisan political organization which builds citizen participation in the democratic process and engages communities in promoting positive solutions to public policy issues through education and advocacy.

Deb Doffing has over 30 years experience in IT working in manufacturing, financial, and health-related industries. She got her feet wet working on mainframes, then moved into project management and the open systems arena creating helpdesks, testing new technology, moving companies and now security. She says it's been a fun ride.

She is a board member of the local Infragard chapter which is a security group managed by the FBI and also a member of the ISSA (Information Systems Security Association).

In this talk, John Fraser will cover emerging technologies vying to become the federated identity standard.  From Passport, to Liberty to SAML to EAP, John will discuss these emerging efforts and business drivers. John will highlight Vision-Share's current and future plans for utilizing these
identity management technologies for in some key projects with state and federal governments on lab reporting, bioterrorism reporting and Medicare access. Finally, he'll speak on his predictions 5 and 10 years out on industry adoption and the pitfalls possible in the journey.

John Fraser is the cofounder and Sr. Vice President of Strategy at VisionShare Inc, a company founded in 2000 and dedicated to providing leading-edge information security, consulting and solution services.  John is a nationally recognized expert on health care communications and
information security, PKI, and the Internet whose expertise includes security infrastructures, project management and community development.  John has led major initiatives that include:

  • designing the next generation healthcare networking services as a
    member of the National Healthcare Information Infrastructure Initiative
    (NHII).
  • developing and managing MedNet while at the MN Health Data Institute.
    Since then VisionShare
  • developed "Secure Exchange Software" to allow using the Internet for any
    type of privacy-protected data ex-changes.
  • helping develop the rule to im-plement the MN Electronic Authorization
    Act and led multiple related HIPAA efforts.
  • providing technical coordination for a 5-state HealthKey Program
    consortium that developed new security structures using PKI, etc. for the
    healthcare industry (www.healthkey.org).
