November 16, 2004 - Dinner Meeting

"Wake Up and Smell the Audit!"
Original Annoucement

You've heard of Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA and Gramm-Leach-Bliley, right?  Do you think you're exempt from, or not affected by, these regulations because your company is not in healthcare, banking or a public company?  Think again.

Deb Doffing will discuss these regulations, their overriding principles and how they could affect you personally regardless of your title and company. She will also explain what these laws have meant to the Information Technology industry plus the coming wave of best practice that is being expected in the wake of these regulations.

Deb Doffing

Deb Doffing

Deb Doffing has over 30 years experience in IT working in manufacturing, financial, and health-related industries. She got her feet wet working on mainframes, then moved into project management and the open systems arena creating helpdesks, testing new technology, moving companies and now security. She says it's been a fun ride.

She is a board member of the local Infragard chapter which is a security group managed by the FBI and also a member of the ISSA (Information Systems Security Association).

Most large analysis firms identify a strong Architecture function as a critical success factor to overall IS department effectiveness. Both in the analysis community as well as in practice, we’ve seen some shift in the approach taken to empower Architecture and, at the same time, hold it accountable. Peter will discuss the topic of Architectural Governance, sharing new insights about what has been effective, and what has not, based on his experiences.

Clark will strive to answer:
  ·  What role should architecture play within your IS department? Is it planning, execution at the project / program level, or does it exercise some systems ownership?
  ·  With so much change in the infrastructure
space, should you develop an infrastructure architecture capability?
  ·  How should major architectural decisions be made? For application products, how is functionality balanced with architectural standards adherence?
  ·  What are the best ways your architecture function can operate with respect to the IS and company culture?
  ·  How can an enterprise know when the Architecture function has been successful and how can it be measured?
  ·  What does a developed target architecture and roadmap do for an Architecture group?
  ·  How can an Architecture Function achieve alignment with the Enterprise?
